To honor Dad

I absolutely adore my Dad.  I've inherited much from my Dad's side of the family.  Dad is a writer - I love to write; Dad has a hysterical sense of humor - I happen to think EVERYTHING is funny if you look at it the right way.

Dad has terrible hay fever allergies - me too.  OK, not all of it's fun, but that's alright.  I have documents that show the hay fever allergies go back many generations - I always thought that was kind of amusing.  I take after my Dad in many ways.  I have an iron-strong will like his and I physically resemble his side of the family - we have what some have called, "those 'Karp' eyes."

When we were kids, Dad had a brown bathrobe he would throw on to come down and holler at us kids when we were making too much noise late at night.  He did this often enough that to this day, my sister, Kami and I still make fun of it - threatening to get him a new brown bathrobe as a gift someday.  I can't believe I didn't think of that this last Father's Day!

My favorite times with Dad are spent listening to him tell stories of when he and his younger brother and cousins would get into mischief when they got together, building forts, throwing things at passing cars from a ridge, and just generally having the kind of fun that boys in the 50's did.

My Dad instilled in me a set of values I have learned to live by.  Maybe not so much when I was a kid - I took a wrong turn every now and then, (OK, a LOT) but I'm fairly certain that both of my parents were fervently praying for me.  Nothing else explains how I survived my childhood unscathed!  As a mother with girls of my own, I know how hard they prayed for me.

I am fortunate enough to still have my Dad and I am very proud of him.  He served his country in the Navy, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Baptist Bible College, now Corban University; he faithfully led our family and just celebrated 46 years with my Mom.  I don't call or see him as often as I should but I do make sure he knows how much me means to me - especially on Father's Day.
